Jocks and Stations Dave North - WASK - Lafayette, IN

Doing Oldies at WASK was just about the most fun I had in my radio career. Our imaging was pretty boring, but  musically, we were a great sounding station. Don Riley was the Program Director and he put the stations format together. We played all the "right" records, but he wasnt afraid to dig deep for the occasional nugget that you werent going to hear anywhere else.

I did the mid day show from 1997 to 1999. I had an all-request show from noon to one called The Lost Lunch. In addition to the requests, I'd throw in a few forgotten oldies, mostly off the wall novelty type records. WASK had a vast library upstairs from their MOR days. I used to dig through the albums from the 60's and 70's to find "contemporary" songs by artists like Mel Torme doing Sunshine Superman and Bing Crosby's version of Hey Jude. I even found a copy of Mae West covering Day Tripper. All of them were pretty awful. I called it the Lose Your Lunch Oldie. I'll have to dig some of those out to share here one of these days.

This is a complete hour of my show (minus commercials) from Dec 8, 1998. The levels are a bit off because our monitor was hooked up straight from the board with no processing. The on-air signal sounded much better.
