Jingles And Liners

Jingles & Liners

These jingles were on WWQQ sometime in the early 70's. These are some awesome vintage jingles. I'm sure they didnt come cheap. Not sure which company produced the package or the exact date.

This liner package ran on WPFR Terre Haute, IN from 1988 until they signed off in '91. Power 103 was the first station I worked where they used more liners than  traditional jingles. Folks in the area seemed to like that approach. There was a bar at the corner of 19th & Margaret where Mickey Burke jocked and used to play these liners between the songs. Later on, Mickey hosted the morning show during the stations dying days. That was one of the first stories I heard about the station when I hit town in late 1989.

After I posted this I got an email from my buddy Max who runs a station in Vegas. He said: One of my ALL TIME favorite imaging voices! I feel like Luke Skywalker just went all Jedi on my ass ;).

I had a ton of these artist drops that I collected over the years. I rarely played an artist drop into a song by that artist because, well EVERYBODY did it that way and I just wanted to be different. Just for fun I strung a few of them together with a jingle when I was doing nights at WZWZ Kokomo.

This is a case where the imaging was just too hip for the station.  This stuff was really fresh, but the music was a little too laid back to work well with this approach. Its too bad, I'd have loved to work for THAT station.

I hated these jingles when I first heard them in 1987. I was driving from Lafayette to Kokomo for an interview with WIOU/WZWZ Ops Manager Daryl Parks about an open position on Z93. I wasnt crazy about the "most hits" phraseolgy. It always seemed awkward to me. The jingles are awesome though. I LOVED the Top Hour I.D. (the one that sounds like a helicopter at the front). I always had a lot of fun with that one. Big thanks to my buddy and Z93 alum Matt Barnett for passing them along to me.

Near the end, there are 3 liners produced by TJ Byers from WZWZ's rock format in the late 70's. Hat tip to my pal Alan Warner for those.

For a good stretch of the late 80s and into the mid 90s, WKLR was THE Oldies station in Indianapolis. I picked up this promo/jingle package somewhere along the way. The file said "From the JG Collection". If anyone knows who "JG" is, be sure to tell him thanks for me.

Update: Mystery solved! JG is Johnny George. Here is a link to his website:

This jingle package was running on KXTC when I left in '06. It came from N2 Effects Productions.

See if you can spot this one...

You're showing your age if you remember when every station used to do this...

This is a liner that ran during my show at my last gig.
